In order to encourage even higher usage of the meeting house, and to support the needs of a growing community, the Heritage Committe agreed to the following list of enhancements:

  • Increase meeting space by 25%, while allowing for more flexible use of the space.
  • Add storage space to hide equipment, when it's not in use (tables, chairs, etc.).
  • Add janitorial space and facilities.  (Currently the single restroom is used to store janitorial equipment.)
  • Create two private restrooms, with an entrance that would not be in the meeting rooms.
  • Add facilities to produce maple syrup, which could be on display year-round and while operating.
  • Add a concession area.
  • Move the entrance to a more visible and attracting location.  "Pull people from the square."
  • Create display areas that can be used year-round.
    • To promote Chardon's heritage and "what's happening around Chardon".
    • Enhance the attraction of the square for visitors.  Give them more to see than just green.
  • Create a better "architecture match" for Chardon Square and its heritage.  Although the existing log cabin remembers the original court house, the committee felt that a log cabin doesn't "fit the appearance" of Chardon.  A timber frame structure would be a better fit to highlight the heritage of the area.
