Requirements Review

The Log Cabin Ad-hoc Committee was formed in October, 2006 to study the potential replacement or remodeling of the existing Log Cabin meeting house on Chardon Square.  The first phase included substantial review and discussion regarding the current concerns, usage, and requirements for the meeting house.

Discussions started with the usage of the existing Log Cabin and current complaints or concerns over the existing structure.  Then discussions expanded to include what functional improvements we would like to achieve.

The Log Cabin, which was built in 1963, was originally designed to create a meeting place and to remember the history of the original court house.  In order to keep construction costs down, the building was built with contemporary stud walls and a fake log cabin exterior.  The original building has served the City of Chardon for well over 40 years.  It consists of one large meeting room and a single unisex bathroom.

After significant discussions, the Heritage Committee agreed that a meeting house on the square was an important asset to the City of Chardon.  We developed a list of requested enhancements to the meeting house, designed to support the increased demands for community involvement on the square.  The committee agreed that the requirements extend beyond the one-room facility that currently exists, and therefore has proposed a new building to replace the log cabin.
