Funding
|
The estimated cost of the entire building project is between $270,000 to $350,000. The Heritage Committe expects to refine these estimates during July and August. The Finance Committee (a subset of the Heritage Committee) is targeting to raise $400,000 to support the project. (The Finance Committee wants to target high, in case the project is delayed and costs continue to rise.)
The Heritage House plans to build with timber framing techniques and be LEED certified. Both of these requirements increase the cost of the building, but also increase the potential for public appeal and financial support.
Privately donated money will be used to build the structure rather than Chardon taxpayers' dollars. Several civic groups already have donated thousands of dollars toward the project. They include the Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce, Chardon Kiwanis, and Wal-Mart. The Geauga County Maple Festival's board of directors is planning to meet soon to confirm their pledge. |

Funds Harvested at First Annual Corn Roast |

We had a very successful first annual corn roast on Saturday, September 12, on Chardon Square. The weather was great! Volunteers served up corn, hot dogs, and beverages. Attendees enjoyed a relaxing lunch on the square and many played corn hole and bocci ball. We were entertained by a local DJ and musician, and even participated in a line dancing class. All the food was gone at the end of the day. We thank those who turned out to support the Heritage House project.
The event was sponsored by the Heritage House Committee, Kiwanis, and Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce. We thank Sage's Apples for donating all the corn for the event!

The Chardon Heritage Committee is excited to announce our first Heritage House fundraising event. This Chinese Auction will occur, in conjunction with Chardon’s Old Glory Days, Friday July 3, 2009 through Saturday July 4, 2009. It will be held at the current log cabin on our historic square. You are invited to participate in a unique Chardon themed-display/basket Chinese Auction. This event is designed to highlight all local entrepreneurial interests as an annual attraction to Old Glory Days. It is your opportunity to creatively design a display basket about your business or make your own creation. Some suggestions would be a salon pampering basket, a professional services basket or an Italian cooking/spices basket. This event will be a fun addition to the already scheduled holiday weekend activities of music, bike decorating, parade, ice cream and children’s games. Tickets will be available at the door for $1.00/each or 6/$5.00. Basket displays can be delivered and set-up at the log cabin Thursday July 2, between 7-9:00pm. The log cabin will be open on 7/3/09 for tickets and basket display viewing 11:00am – 3:00pm and 6 – 9:00pm, during the band concert. Tickets and viewing will also be available 11:00am – 5:00pm., on 7/4/09. The drawing will immediately follow the 7/4/09 band concert. Winners need not be present. All proceeds will benefit the future Heritage House. We are asking you to support this auction event in one or more of the following ways: |

Heritage House Goes Green |

The Chardon Heritage Committe agreed to move forward with LEED Certification. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction. LEED certified buildings are healthier work and living environments, which contributes to higher productivity and improved health and comfort. The USGBC has also compiled a long list of benefits of implementing a LEED strategy which ranges from improving air and water quality to reducing solid waste. The fundamental reduction in environmental impacts in addition to all of the economic and occupant benefits goes a long way for making a case for green building. |
