Charter

Chardon Heritage Committee (formerly called the Log Cabin Ad-hoc Committee) was founded to provide guidance to Chardon City Council regarding the potential replacement or remodeling of the Log Cabin meeting house on Chardon Square.  We have studied the current and potential uses for the building and recommended to replace the current log cabin with a larger timber frame structure.  The larger structure will support the needs that were identified in the early phase of the project.

The committee membership includes:

  • Two representatives from Chardon City Council,
  • Two representatives from the community,
  • One representative from Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce,
  • One representative from Chardon Kiwanis,
  • One representative from Chardon Square Association, and
  • One representative from Geauga County Maple Festival.

The Heritage Committee is currently completing the preliminary design for presentation to Council.  This includes the presentation of a scale model of the proposed Heritage House and immediate surrounding areas.  The model will include representative objects to help compare the Heritage House size to other buildings in the area.  We are also working on the marketing and fundraising efforts.  Our primary responsibilities include:

  • Complete the design for final presentation to Council,
  • Spearhead the marketing and fundraising plan,
  • Solicit commitments from gifters,
  • Build support for the project,
  • Formulate cost estimates for construction and on-going maintenance, and
  • Periodically report back to Council on project progress.
