The Chardon Heritage website is dedicated to discussions related to the Chardon Heritage project in Chardon, Ohio.  Chardon is the county seat of Geauga County.  The Chardon Heritage Committee is actively reviewing options to replace or remodel the existing log cabin on Chardon Square.  This site is primarily a "forum-based" website, intended to improve public feedback regarding this project.

The square, referred to as the Chardon Courthouse Square District, is on the National Register of Historic Places.  Chardon Square is of traditional Western Reserve style, allowing a central location in the heart of the city for community involvement.

The existing fake log cabin was built to replicate a real log cabin that served as Geauga County's first courthouse on the square in the early 1800s. Logs were not used in the replica in an effort to cut costs when it was built in the 1960s.  It has served the city well as a meeting place, but no longer meets the needs of the Chardon community.

The Committee's current focus is increasing commerce and cultural activity on the square.  We are also building financial support and public awareness.

The Chardon Heritage Committee releases our first marketing brochure for the project.  Our brochure highlights our heritage, primary purpose and mission.  Photos within the brochure provide images of "life on the square".

The interior of the Heritage House will demonstrate how most buildings in the area were built with hand-crafted timber frames, so it's fitting that our front cover would feature a timber frame joint commonly used in this construction.  The background photo of Chardon Square exhibits the vibrant square that our founding fathers planned for a central meeting place and center of commerce.

Our back cover identifies significant community organizations that support our project.  Our brochure also includes a summary comparison of the current log cabin to our proposed Heritage House.

Funds Harvested at First Annual Corn Roast PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 13 September 2009 00:00

We had a very successful first annual corn roast on Saturday, September 12, on Chardon Square.  The weather was great!  Volunteers served up corn, hot dogs, and beverages.  Attendees enjoyed a relaxing lunch on the square and many played corn hole and bocci ball.  We were entertained by a local DJ and musician, and even participated in a line dancing class.  All the food was gone at the end of the day.  We thank those who turned out to support the Heritage House project.

The event was sponsored by the Heritage House Committee, Kiwanis, and Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce.  We thank Sage's Apples for donating all the corn for the event!
